Abstract

Objetivo: Com a crescente expansão do mercado de bebidas energéticas e bebidas desportivas, é de extrema importância clarificar os ingredientes que compõem cada uma destas bebidas e para que propósitos servem. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar o consumo de bebidas energéticas e bebidas desportivas, enumerando os seus efeitos e fatores associados. Metodologia: Foi efetuada uma pesquisa dos artigos publicados entre 2005 e 2017 na PubMed e b-on. As palavras-chave usadas foram ‘energy drinks’, ‘sports drinks’, ‘consume’, ‘effects’, ‘ingredients’, ‘knowledge’, ‘doping’. Descrição: As bebidas energéticas, com o objetivo de fornecer energia e melhorar o estado de alerta, são constituídas, essencialmente, por água, hidratos de carbono (glucose, sacarose), cafeína, taurina, vitaminas do complexo B (B2, B3, B6, B11 e B12), glucoronolactona e outras substâncias, tais como ginseng, guaraná e inositol e aromatizantes. As bebidas desportivas são constituídas, maioritariamente, por água, hidratos de carbono (glucose), eletrólitos (essencialmente, sódio, potássio, magnésio e cálcio) e aromatizantes que permitem a oferta vasta de sabores que existe no mercado. Estas são direcionadas para atender às necessidades de um esforço físico intenso, acompanhado de uma sudação considerável. Conclusão: Devido aos efeitos indesejáveis da ingestão inadequada deste tipo de bebidas, o papel de profissionais de saúde, professores e pais é fulcral para reconhecer sinais e comportamentos associados a esta ingestão e, assim, promover hábitos saudáveis.
