Terceiro molar incluso: extração versus abstenção

Abstract

A inclusão de molares pode ser considerada uma falha de erupção, resultado de vários fatores e condições de origem geral ou local, no caso em que o dente não erupciona para além do período considerado normal. No entanto, na maioria dos casos, é assintomático e o seu diagnóstico é um achado clínico ou radiográfico ocasional. O diagnóstico precoce pode prevenir complicações futuras e reduzir a duração, complexidade e custo do tratamento. O diagnóstico é baseado na história clínica e nos exames clínicos e radiológicos. A escolha entre a extração do dente do siso ou a abstenção é de difícil discernimento. A decisão é multifatorial, deste modo , estão disponíveis recomendações nacionais de alguns países para os profissionais de saúde no sentido de orientar o clínico em função do paciente, no seu caso específico.
