Come si è verificato il passaggio dalla «tradizionale» formazione face to face a quella a distanza, ora si sta verificando il passaggio dalla formazione a distanza «tradizionale» a quella 2.0. Ogni individuo, con le sue caratteristiche, tende a costruirsi un mondo personale di apprendimento, che interagisce con un numero sempre maggiore di tecnologie e differenti reti sociali. Forse è giunto il momento di passare ad insegnare nella tecnologia, cioè di considerare la tecnologia come l’ambiente naturale in cui si realizza l’apprendimento.
