Abstract

Il libro esplora la nascita dell'intellettuale moderna dall'esperienza della Francia rivoluzionaria. C'è una protagonista, Marie-Armande Gacon-Dufour, scrittrice fisiocratica influenzata dalla Rivoluzione in senso patriottico, laico e repubblicano. Intorno alla sua vicenda sono presentate carriere e idee di altre autrici di convinzioni rivoluzionarie che, come lei, non scrissero solo romanzi o opere in difesa delle donne, ma, tutt'altro che isolate e pronte a schierarsi in campi non ritenuti "femminili", parteciparono alle battaglie, alle iniziative politiche e culturali, alla costruzione dell'immaginario della propria epoca, dalla vigilia della Rivoluzione all'Impero. Una ricerca dedicata non solo alla poco esplorata cittadinanza delle donne nella storia intellettuale e culturale dell'età rivoluzionaria, ma anche all'interesse ai fini della lettura complessiva della storia della cultura rivoluzionaria della presenza di una nuova iniziativa di donne impegnata nell'esperienza che si va facendo.
