Abstract

Parlant moins de ce que Baudelaire fait à Foucault, je voudrais plutôt tenter une élaboration très lointainement foucaldienne au sein de l’œuvre de Baudelaire : en quoi l’esthétique de l’existence constitue un véritable souci pour le poète ? Comment peut-elle être historicisée ? Les manifestations les plus évidentes, et rappelées par Foucault lui-même, sont à chercher du côté de l’essai que Baudelaire consacre à Constantin Guys, Le Peintre de la vie moderne, ou quelques autres éclats du dernier élan créatif du poète ; ne faudrait-il pas aussi considérer les moments moins fréquentés de l’œuvre, le cheminement discret qui font de ces textes un aboutissement ou plutôt le lieu où se déposent autant d’aspirations à faire se correspondre l’esthétique et l’éthique ? Si le premier dandysme baudelairien, sur le plan strictement biographique, fut aussi une esthétique, battant le pavillon fané du romantisme – sinon fané, du moins hors de mode – le second, dans ses propositions comme dans ses réalisations, prit une autre envergure qu’il nous appartient de comprendre et d’inscrire dans la généalogie que ce volume désire décrire.
