The present study stablishes the compositional relation between sandstone and lutitic levels of the Permian and Triassic succession from Desert de les Palmes area (Castellón). The evolution shows a general quartz and kaoHnite decrease up of the serie, and an increase of illite and metamorphic fragments. Different relation between quartz-kaolinite and illite-metamorphic fragments have been associated with the sediment provenance and the geological evolution of the source area. Lower Unit derived from the erosion of an important weathered layer rich in quartz, kaoHnite and iron oxides developed on the Hercyninan materials. The continuous erosion of the source area lowered the weathering cover influence on the sedimentation of Middle and Upper Units
