In this article a narrative analysis of reality shows is formulated. Specifically, the target are those TV shows intended to find a romantic partner, which are frequently airing in Spanish public television. The format is analyzed, and the focus is made on the presence of genre stereotypes with the objective of offering the teachers and students a manual with which critically analyze these shows. Realities such as “Who wants to marry my son?” (Cuatro) or “Women and Men” (Telecinco) have mostly young audiences and spread a distorted, exaggerated scripted vision of affective relationships. The pedagogic purpose of this article is to serve as an “argument and decode guide” in areas such as co-education or the students’ own positive self-awareness.
