Abstract

This thesis has the intention of giving an approximation about the existing resilience in couples and mixed marriages in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. At the same time it also wants to know, reflect and learn from people who went through rough situations but survived. Men and women who got reinforced from their own weakness and also developed successful processes in spite of the difficulties. To tackle all these questions we have divided the thesis in two main parts. The first one focused on the theoretical framework that every thesis needs, and the second based on the empiric investigation carried through the thesis itself The first chapter introduces the term “resilience”, showing its different conceptions. Thereafter, we establish the components of the resilience process defining its general factors, the protective mechanisms, and the main personal, familiar and community characteristics. In the third section we present the resilience schools and their main lines of investigation. We end the first part showing the resilience evaluation methods and its measuring instruments. In the second chapter we make an approximation to immigration. In the third chapter we analyze the situation of mixed marriages, considering our migration theoretical framework to study resilience in Spain and Andalusia (the community where the target couples of our study are residing at). The fourth chapter connects resilience, family and migration. After the theoretical explanation, the second part of the thesis starts with an investigation focused on the mixed marriages resilience in Andalusia between 2000 and 2008.
