Abstract

A niveles profesionales, los técnicos del campo de lo social, mediadores, trabajadores sociales, psicológicos, terapeutas, pedagogos, educadores, profesionales del campo de la salud, etc., vienen percibiendo en los últimos años un aumento considerable de personas mayores en el perfil de sujetos, bien sean clientes o usuarios, que atienden en su quehacer cotidiano. El envejecimiento poblacional, es algo que afecta a todos los órdenes de la sociedad, programación de televisión y radio, estructura de los espacios urbanos, políticas públicas y en especial políticas sociales, anuncios televisivos, programas de actividades de los ayuntamientos, estrategias de ventas en las empresas, y creación de productos específicos para el mercado de mayores, desarrollo de centros y servicios geriátricos y gerontológico, desarrollo en las universidades de itinerarios formativos especializados en mayores, así como de estudios de postgrado, y un largo etc. La intervención social y el desarrollo de la mediación no queda fuera de estas influencias. Cada vez se van encontrando más situaciones de mediación relacionadas con aspectos de nuestra población mayor, en los más diversos campos, la familia, temas vecinales, situaciones en contextos geriátricos, en contextos del sistema sanitario, cuestiones jurídicas, de conflicto intergeneracional, y otras. El buen mediador estará cualificado y formado para atender las cuestiones relacionadas con el incremento de esta población, que afecta a nuestra sociedad y que continurá modificando aspectos de la misma, y también de sus profesionales sociales. Si los perfiles de nuestros clientes y usuarios se transforman, el mediador se ha de adecuar, ajustándose a esta realidad.

At the professional level, the experts in the social field—mediators, social workers, psychologists, therapists, educators, doctors, etc.—have noticed the ageing of the subjects they work with. The ageing of population affects all the scopes of society; TV and radio programming, the structure of urban spaces, public and social policies, TV advertising, local activities, marketing strategies, new products, geriatric services, graduate and undergraduate studies, and a long etcetera. Social intervention and the development of mediation are also influenced by such tendency. Ageing is becoming increasingly present in circumstances when social mediation is required; family or neighbouring conflicts, within the context of the health system, legal questions, intergenerational conflict and others. Mediators must be qualified to meet circumstances related to the increasing number of the aged.
