Laberinto de Fortuna

Abstract

Del laberinto en el que estuvo sumida la Castilla del siglo XV surgió otro, ahora en verso, que Juan de Mena presentó en 1444 al entonces monarca Juan II como un plan de acción política para la reforma del reino. Ese "Laberinto de Fortuna" constituye una pieza mayor en el canon de la literatura española, que se mueve entre las últimas inercias medievales y un primer Renacimiento propiamente hispánico. Mena lo concibió con una conciencia humanística y una decisiva dimensión experimental. En su afán por imitar la epopeya clásica, diseñó una lengua poética que se alejaba del uso común para dotar al castellano de una dignidad pareja a la del latín. Su éxito fue enorme y se mantuvo en el tiempo, como muestran los numerosos manuscritos en los que la obra nos ha llegado, los comentarios de Hernán Núñez o el Brocense o su presencia, aún viva, en la polémica gongorina. Esta edición crítica y modernizada pretende ofrecer una lectura clara y accesible de ese "Laberinto", que se presenta como un desafío sugestivo y extraordinario para los lectores del siglo XXI.
