Ictiofauna continental onubense

Abstract

Los peces continentales son los vertebrados más diversos y los más amenazados. El conocimiento de sus patrones de distribución y de su estatus se hace imprescindible en la medida en que se aceleran los cambios ambientales que los están llevando a la extinción. A principios del S XXI, el grupo de investigación "Biología de las Aguas Epicontinentales (RNM-324)" llevó a cabo diferentes muestreos de peces en la provincia onubense que incluyeron la práctica totalidad de las cuencas que la drenan. Estos trabajos han permitido establecer una línea base cuantitativa de este grupo de vertebrados acuáticos que es lo que se presenta en este capítulo. En total se aporta información sobre 96 localidades continentales, la mayoría fluviales, en las que se han registrado 38 especies de peces, de las que 18 son de distribución primaria, es decir, estrictamente continentales. Esta extraordinaria ictiofauna, en la que destaca sobremanera el jarabugo (Anaecypris hispanica) está expuesta a un grave riesgo de extinción, como se puede comprobar a partir de las extinciones locales registradas en este trabajo. De aquí se deduce que se deben redoblar los esfuerzos de protección de los hábitats acuáticos, especialmente en lo concerniente a la disponibilidad de agua, a su calidad y a la penetración de especies exóticas de carácter invasor, cada vez más extendidas por esta provincia.
