El objetivo de este trabajo es poner de manifiesto cómo los valores de una determinada cultura pueden ser un obstáculo para el reconocimiento de las personas con alto potencial intelectual. También se pretende con él refleWonar sobre las barreras sociales (minorías étnicas, pobreza, género, impedimentos físicos,...) que actualmente existen en nuestra sociedad y que impiden la identificación de los alumnos excepcionales, así como también el desarrollo de sus capacidades potenciales. Asimismo, se busca enfatizar cómo en el proceso de ser reconocido y aceptado como superdotado influye el período histórico, las políticas educativas y el interés público y/o social._____________________________________ The aim of this article is to state how the values of a determined culture may be an obstarle for the recognition of the people with a high intellectual potential. It also tries to make a reflection on the social barriers (ethnic minorities, poverty, gender, physical disadvantages,...) which exist now In our society and which prevent the identification of those exceptional pupils, as well as the development of their potential abilities. In the same way, it is also emphasized how the process of being recognized and accepted as extremely gifted person is influenced by the historical period, the educational policies and the public and/or social interest.
