El 12 de enero de 1970 tuvo lugar un gran deslizamiento en la antigua carretera nacional Granada-Málaga, inicialmente se identificó como un desprendimiento rocoso con eslizamiento rotacional en cabecera, seguido de un flujo gravitatorio de gran extensión. El régimen hidrogeológico del borde caliza-marga, la litología, la complejidad estructural y las altas pendientes hacen del área una altamente susceptible a los deslizamientos; el factor desencadenante en esta ocasión fueron las fuertes lluvias.
On 12 January 1970 a large slide took place on the old main Malaga-Granada road, characte rized initially by a rock fall with rotational sliding at the main scarp, followed by a widespread gra- vitational flow.
