Evolución dinámica de la cuenca del Duero

Abstract

[EN] The Duero Basin is one of the highest alpine intra-mountain depressions in Europe (>800 m). Often considered as part of the Cantabrian-Pyrenean foreland basin, its origin cannot be supported only by the alpine crustal short- ening; therefore the combined analysis of lithospheric-scale deformation is required. In this study we present the results of a series of analogue models that allowed us to gain insights into the contribution of the lithospheric de- formation and subsequent isostatic processes, which may explain the ob- served variations in the depth to the Moho underneath the basins and nearby mountain ranges, as well as the high topography of the basin.
