During the upper Oligocene a carbonated shallow lacustrine system developed in the central sector of the Ebro Basin. The lacustrine system was closely related to alluvial systems spreading from the margins to the centre of the basin. The periods with important surge dynamics in the lacustrine area caused the reworking of the materials deposited in the lake and the creation of sand bars basically formed by climbing structures of different types and scales
