La California hispana: frailes, colonos y soldados en el fin del mundo(1767-1821)

La expedición de Hernán Cortés hay que enmarcarla en el deseo de la Corona hispana por ocupar las costas pacíficas de Norteamérica desde el siglo XVI.Los monarcas españoles financiaron y enviaron un gran número de expediciones al Noroeste, que pueden agruparse en dos etapas. La primera comenzaría con los viajes organizados por Hernán Cortés y terminaría con las expediciones marítimas de Sebastián Vizcaíno (1532-1603).
