Avances en el diagnóstico de la desertificación en España

Abstract

Con vistas a la aprobación definitiva del Programa de Acción Nacional contra la Desertificación (PAND), el Ministerio de Medi o Ambiente y Medio Rural y Marino pone en marcha en 2006 un nuevo proces o de revisión del PAND, en tre otras razones, por la necesidad de elaborar una revisión del diagnó stico de la desertifi cación que permita la determinación de la distribución e intensidad del problema en España con un mayor detalle. Con esta iniciativa se han obtenido algunos avan ces en el diagnóstico de la desertificación. Esta revisión pretendía rec opilar y aplicar los avances de la comuni dad científica internacional y de diversos organismos que han venido trabajando en la evaluación y diagnóstico de la desertificaci ón. Para ello se constituyó un grupo de trabajo formado por expertos en desertificación, pe rtenecientes a organismos e in stituciones de las distintas regiones de España. Entre los resultados, además de una impo rtante mejora del “mapa de riesgo de desertificación”, que fue incl uido en el PAND aprobado en agosto de 2008, destaca el planteamiento de un Sistema Integrado de Eval uación y Vigilancia de la Desertificación en España, también incorporado al PAND, que permita una revisión continua del estado y evolución del proceso, y que sea capaz de proporcionar pronósticos prospectivos con diferentes escenarios climáticos y socioeconómi cos. Se pretende que el Sistema recoja e integre las numerosas líneas de trabajo en desarrollo en nu estro país. Se exponen, por su mayor potencialidad y viabilida d, algunos elementos de evaluación y seguimiento en fase de desarrollo e incorporación al Sistema Integrado.
