The survey and excavations projects conducted in the interior drainage of Tagus during the last decade have overcomesome of these suppositions, by considering an alternative point of view of neolitization, that is focused on the continuity ofpopulation and on interaction between communities as the starting point of Neolithic landscapes. To argue these hypothesiswe discuss archaeological and palynological data.
The recognition of Neolithic communities in the current region of Extremadura was traditionally based on the analysis oftypological characteristics of vessels, which were often presented lacking stratigraphical context. Some of these proposalsalso considered that neolitization was a latter process, developed by a gradual human occupation of inhabited territories.
