Abstract

Las reservas marinas son una herramienta esencial para la gestión de los recursos marinos. Su objetivo principal es conservar poblaciones de especies explotadas dentro del perímetro protegido, al mismo tiempo que propiciar una cierta exportación de biomasa que permita el desarrollo de una actividad pesquera artesanal en las zonas periféricas. Para alcanzar este objetivo, los patrones de movimiento de las especies que se pretenden favorecer son un factor clave a tener en cuenta a la hora de diseñar y gestionar con éxito una reserva marina. Tanto las dimensiones de la reserva como la diversidad de hábitats que albergan tienen que estar acorde con los hábitos de movilidad/sedentarismo de las distintas especies de peces. A pesar del interés que tiene esta información para una correcta gestión, hay muy pocos datos disponibles sobre el movimiento de peces, especialmente de especies bentopelágicas como el dentón (Dentex dentex), que supuestamente tienen una gran capacidad de desplazamiento. En este estudio, mediante técnicas de telemetría acústica, se siguió el movimiento de varios ejemplares de dentón en relación a una reserva marina de pequeño tamaño, con el objetivo de describir los patrones de movimiento de esta especie y de determinar el papel que juega la figura de protección en su conservación y gestión.
