Abstract

La plataforma continental y el cañón submarino del Cap de Creus pasarán a formar parte de la Red Natura 2000 como una de las áreas marina protegidas más importantes de la Península Ibérica. Su designación se basa en gran medida por la gran productividad que presenta la zona, dadas sus características físicas y geográficas, así como la gran riqueza de comunidades y especies que se ha encontrado bajo sus aguas. Un paso esencial para la presentación de la propuesta de área marina protegida es el estudio de las comunidades bentónicas. Para llevar a cabo este estudio se han realizado tres campañas oceanográficas a bordo del B/O García del Cid en el marco del proyecto LIF+INDEMARES. El paso previo al estudio de las comunidades ha sido la confección de una batimetría detallada de la zona y de un estudio de la naturaleza del sustrato mediante la combinación de diferentes técnicas (análisis de imagen, análisis granulométrico, análisis litológico, interpretación de datos batimétricos y de backscatter). El estudio de las comunidades biológicas se ha llevado a cabo mediante prospección con vehículos operados por control remoto (ROV) y submarinos tripulados equipados con cámaras de vídeo. Mediante muestreos selectivos realizados con el ROV y el sumergible, así como mediante el uso de la draga de arrastre Rauschert, se han recolectado organismos que han permitido la validación de las identificaciones de las especies dominantes en los transectos de vídeo.
