[EN] Several methods have been used to choose elite American and European field corn inbreds (Zea mays L.) to improve the yield of sweet corn for European conditions. Our objective was to compare realized results and predictions of methods to identify potential donors. The estimate of favorable dominant alleles present in the donor but not in the hybrid (µG') was checked. The field corn inbreds A632 and EP42 had been identified as the best potential donors for improving yield of sweet corn hybrids. The estimator µG' correctly predicted the differences between best and worst donors of favorable alleles for improving yield of sweet corn hybrids. The prediction of the best recipient reasonably fitted the realized results.
