Abstract

[EN]: Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) composts from a recycling plant in Villarrasa (Huelva) wich are prepared with wastes collected without any selection process at origin, have, potentially, an important fertilising capacity and acceptable heavy metal contents. However, they also have certain undesirable features (high C/N ratio, excessive glass and impurity contents, and lack of maturity) that limit their use and reduce the potential market for the product. Some of these negative aspects could be avoided by improving the composting process (longer duration and control of different parameters) or following certain precautions before their application (earlier incorporation, moderate doses, correction of the applied mineral fertililization). Finally, other negative aspects depend mainly on the properties of the fresh MSW and can only be corrected by improving the efficiency of the selective waste collecting system.
