Distribución estacional y espacial del fitoplancton en la ría de Pontevedra (NO de España)

Abstract

Se estudia el fitoplancton de la ría de Pontevedra durante un ciclo anual. Las abundancias totales y las de los grandes grupos revelan el ciclo típico y la sustitución de especies propias de las aguas templadas sometidas a un régimen de afloramientos, con la sucesión truncadas por los aportes de nutrientes y de turbulencia que acompañan al agua que emerge. Los ciliados oligotricos y las especies de tamaño pequeño del fitoplancton presentan sus máximos en momentos y lugares de gran estratificación física. Se da una lista de especies que, aunque incompleta, aumenta la diversidad florística conocida hasta ahora en la zona. En ella se observa la importancia de los flagelados desnudos, acon algunas especies que han podido clasificarse. La marea roja de octubre de 1980 estuvo constitutida, en su mayor parte, por un flagelado de un tamaño medio de unos 16 μm de longitud que clasificamos como Olisthodiscus luteus. Al ser este un organismo sujeto a mucha controversia taxonómica, presentamos una breve descripción morfológica.
