In this work, a brief outline is presented of the recent research lines followed by our group on the study of cold plasmas generated in low pressure glow discharges of different gas mixtures. The presentation is focused mainly on three subjects: a)Studies of proton transfer chains in plasmas of H2 rich mixtures with N2, O2 or air (N2+O2), generated in hollow cathode DC discharges, and the prevalence of different ions attending to the proton affinity of their precursor molecules. b)High resolution infrared spectroscopic study of the NH3D+ ion in the laboratory and the detection of this ion for the first time in space. c) Preliminary measurements of dusty plasmas and carbonaceous deposits generated in inductively coupled RF discharges and comparison with analogs of astrophysical interest.
