Abstract

[EN] Corn borers are the main sweet corn (Zea mays L.) pest in Galicia. In our conditions, there are two species that cause this pest: Sesamia nonagrioides (Lef.) and Ostrinia nubilalis (Hbn.), but the relative importance of each one is unknown. The objective of this work is to study the incidence of the corn borers in sweet corn ears, to know the weight of each species. Six sweet corn hybrids were evaluated two years, in two localities, with two sowing dates. Late sowing plants were more damaged than early sowing plants, although damage was also important in early sowing. Larvae of both species were found in sweet corn ears but pink stem borer larvae cause more damage in the crop.
