Abstract

[EN] In recent years, the unfavorable situation of the Spanish industry, due mainly to the economic downturn, generates serious doubts about its reactivation and growth in the immediate future. In addition, the constant introduction of low cost products of comparable quality into the world trade by competitive countries presents a warning to many of the most important national industries. The Spanish ceramic industry is among the most competitive ones globally due to its dynamism in the emergence of new technologies, the introduction of enhancements into the production process and the product quality. Previously, it sought to reduce costs and to obtain environmentally friendly production. However, nowadays the aim is to provide high added value to ceramic pieces, increasing their functionality and providing special properties to these traditional materials, based on new technologies and adapting to trade milestones. Many research papers have been published on the sol-gel process applied to the ceramic fields. However, there is not so many researchs transferred to the manufacturing. Therefore, applying the sol-gel process to ceramics in the industry fields would be an interesting and relevant goal.
