Abstract

[EN]Clay mineralogy of seven profiles of the Cordillera Central has been studied. The clay minerals commonly encountered are, kaolinite, ilite, vermiculite-chlorite intergrade, ilite integrade interstrafied and crystallized iron and aluminium oxides. The degree of mica-intergrade transformation is higher in the surface horizons and stronger in soils developed from granites as compared to those from schists. Gibbsite occurs in all the profiles. In certain profiles, the presence of goethite and the additional presence of lepidocrocite in gley horizons, was detected.
