Propiedades, génesis y clasificación de suelos de terrazas del Guadalquivir

Abstract

En el amplio y largo valle del Guadalquivir, los terrenos constituidos por sedimentos cuaternarios del río determinan dos zonas bien diferenciadas: la de vegas y la de terrazas. En la primera, los materiales son sedimentos recientes, en general poco transformados. Estos sedimentos constituyen suelos jóvenes y fértiles, fáciles de regar. En la segunda, zona de terrazas, aunque de topografía en general llana, se distinguen áreas a distintos niveles sobre las que se encuentran suelos maduros de color, textura y estructura muy diferentes. Estos suelos, por mostrar perfiles con horizontes muy contrastados y encontrarse a niveles muy superiores al del río, son difíciles de regar. Aunque se posee un conocimiento general de los suelos de estas dos zonas, falta, sin embargo, un estudio detallado de las formaciones edáficas más representativas. En el trabajo que a continuación se expone se relacionan datos morfológicos, propiedades y constituyentes de suelos de la vega y terrazas de la margen izquierda del Guadalquivir, entre los ríos Corbones y Guadaira. A nuestro juicio, esta zona puede considerarse como un módulo adecuado para estudios posteriores de las principales formaciones edáficas desarrolladas sobre sedimentos del Guadalquivir, suelos que al mismo tiempo poseen un gran interés científico y práctico.
