Abstract

Este libro es el fruto de un exhaustivo trabajo de equipo sobre este importante complejo rural centrado en la pars fructuaria, uno de los espacios que mejor nos informa de las actividades productivas y de la vida cotidiana de estas explotaciones agropecuarias. La obra examina este edificio mediante el análisis del registro arqueológico que ha permitido su caracterización funcional y cronológica, así como su integración en el contexto de las edificaciones de almacenamiento y conservación conocidas en el área occidental del Imperio. No podemos dejar de señalar que el hórreo romano de Veranes es el más antiguo documentado en Asturias, lo que cuestiona el supuesto origen medieval de estas construcciones norteñas y contribuye a poner fin a la permanente discusión sobre el inicio de los graneros sobreelevados.
