Abstract

[EN]Oxibendazole (OBZ)was administered at 360 ppm, in the feed to three groups of 12, 18 and 16 pregnant sows, from the beginning of pregnancy to 40 days, to the first group, from day 40 to day 80 the second and from day 80 to parturition to the third group. At the same time groups of 9, 7 and 10 pregnant sows received CO3Ca as placebo. A fourth group of 10 sows feed OBZ 45 mg./Kg. twice a week from day 7 to day 42 of pregnancy, and once a week day 43 to day 84. In this group there were 8 animal non medicated. In the three first groups, the OBZ received represented 24 times the therapeutic dose during a number of days 6 times superior. OBZ feed in the fourth group was triple of therapeutic dose, with repetitions every 3 and 7 days respectively during the first and second third of pregnancy. None of the four group showed significative differences between treated and untreated sows, with regard to the length of pregnancy, number of born piglets, abortions, mumified fetus, external conformation of piglets, neonatal losses, weight at weaning and weaning losses.
