Abstract

El poder patógeno de Pythium aphanidermatum sobre plantas adultas de pepino se puso siempre de manifiesto por las necrosis ocasionadas en el sistema radicular, y a veces, por causar necrosis del hipocotilo, marchitez, muerte de las plantas y mermas de producción. La necrosis del hipocolito se observó en un porcentaje alto de las plantas sólo cuando se inocularon con cuatro hojas, mientras que cuando se inocularon al principio de la recolección la mostraron infrecuentemente. No siempre el patógeno produjo la muerte de las plantas y, a pesar de las importantes necrosis causadas al sistema radicular, no siempre éstas tuvieron un significativo reflejo en la producción de frutos.

Los estudios se han realizado fundamentalmente con financiación del Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Tecnología Agraria y Alimentaria, otorgada al proyecto de investigación nº SC95-076, titulado: Enfermedades causadas por hongos de suelo en tomate, pepino y sandía sobre sustratos.
