FtsH es una proteasa-chaperona de membrana conservada que regula la calidad de las proteínas y se activa en condiciones de estrés. De hecho, forma parte del regulón de CesSR, un sistema de dos componentes que regula la respuesta al estrés sobre la envoltura celular en Lactococcus lactis. Además, FtsH posee funciones reguladoras en algunos microorganismos, como la decisión lisis-lisogenia del fago lamba en Escherichia coli.
