Una vida científica dedicada al conocimiento de las plantas llevó al autor de Prodromus de la flora ibérica a las más importantes cátedras y sociedades científicas de la época. Willkomm escribió numerosas obras sobre nuestra flora a través de las que alcanzó merecida fama.
