En los últimos diez años hemos asistido al resurgir de teorías que defienden una concepción objetiva y universal de las necesidades. En esta línea cabe destacar en especial la obra de Len Doyal y Ian Gough Una teoría de las necesidades humanas, que se presenta como un reto a las teorías de las necesidades relativas y subjetivas. En esta nota se intenta mostrar que existe una tercera vía teórica -la que considera que las necesidades son relativas y objetivas-, que Doyal y Gough engloban erróneamente entre las teorías relativistas y subjetivas.
