Abstract

[EN] In 2002 a long term program set out to study the environmental noise of Belém, Brasil. The goal is to determine noise levels all around the town empirically and compose a noise map, firstly from the measures and later by the use of a calculation method. In addition, the program intended to characterize the noise in such a way that guidelines could be elaborated to allow the management and control of noise. In this work results about the characterization of the town noise are presented. This characterization is based on the results obtained on the earlier stage (geographically distributed) to get relations between noise levels and traffic flow according to classic models.

Besides, relationship between the kind of road and noise is established following recent works and getting coherent results with them. In this way we can see as this kind of classification can be useful to simplify experimental measurement series and as a way to get parameters useful to noise management.
