Abstract

[EN] There is relatively little literature concerned with modal parameter determination for highly damped single degree of freedom systems (SDOF). Traditionally, simplifications made on the grounds of light damping have allowed theoretical studies of each measurement method. However, for non-light damping this is often not possible and one must proceed on a heuristic basis. Using the measurement of modal parameters used to characterize resilient layers for impact transmission reduction within buildings, some common measurement methods are evaluated numerically for an SDOF system with viscous and non-viscous damping. Their performance often dependes on the type of damping, which must be known, or gleaned before using method performance comparisons.
