Abstract

[EN]The patriarchy has historically triggered processes of delegitimization of women. Those processes affect the social, political and economic order but also the symbolic order, ie. the social and collective perception of women. The aim of such strategies of delegitimization is to stop the involvement of women in the public sphere. The article analyzes one of the processes of delegitimization what develops in the transition from Medieval to the Modern Age: the demonization of women through the image of the witch. The article analyzes two demonological treatises published in Castile in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries: Fortalitium fidei (1467) by Alfonso de Espina and Tratado muy sotil y bien fundado de las supersticiones y hechicerías by Fray Martín de Castañega (1529).
