Abstract

[EN]The number of criminal proceedings carried out by familiars from Cuenca raised along nearly all the sixteenth century. The percentage of these so-called criminal prosecutions judged by Inquisitors was insignificant during the first decades of 1500 but, since 1560, familiars’ pending criminal proceedings played an important role in the judicial activity of the Tribunal of Cuenca. This paper tries to analyse the types of crimes in which familiars were frequently involved and the motivations that led them to commit a criminal offense during the reign of Philip II.
