[EN]The main goal of this text is to debate a central problem to the PhD thesis I currently develop: the issue of the degree of autonomy of prince D. Luis’ noble household in relation to the royal household of his brother, King John III. This question of the household autonomy, not very clear on Portuguese historiography, is divided into several dimensions (economic autonomy, political autonomy) in order to create a basis for discussion of the different degrees of autonomy of prince s household, observing the correlation of forces and control attempts made by the monarch, over the time.
