Abstract

[EN]In this brief communication we analyse the work of the Jesuit Pedro Murillo Velarde, Historia de la Provincia de Filipinas de la Compañía de Jesús. Segunda Parte, 1616-1716, and we compare it with the works of his predecessors as «official» chroniclers of the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus, Pedro Chirino and Francisco Colín. The analysis focuses on what we consider the two basic topics in the chronicle: the great presence of political history in the chronicle and the huge number of individuals’ eulogies (either religious or not) in the text.
