[EN]The relationships among the concentratrions of mineral elements (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Mn, Fe, Zn and Cu) in communities of semi-arid grasslands were studied. For such purposes, the effects of a topographic gradient (the upper and lower parts of 30 slopes) and of the botanical composition, referring to the principal groups comprising the communities (grasses, legumes and other families) were considered. Upon considering the upper and lower parts of the slopes together, the number of significant correlations (P<0.05, P<0.01) among the bioelements was found to be greater in the group of grasses: N, K and Mg being the element forming the most correlations within that family. Differentiation by zones (high and low) revealed a lesser number of significant positive correlations among the different elements, especially in the legumes and other families. A slight increase in the number of negative correlations with respect to when the separation by zones was not established was observed. A striking finding was the positive relationship between Ca and Ng owing to its high degree of significance (P<0.01) and because is appeared in all cases and under all circumstances; the highest correlation coefficients being those corresponding to the legumes: r=0.72 (upper part), r=0.73 (lower part) and r=0.80 (upper and lower zones together).
