Fisiología de la prolactina

Abstract

La prolactina es una hormona polipeptídica sintetizada principalmente por las células lactotropas de la adenohipófisis. Según ha avanzado el conocimiento sobre la fisiología y bioquímica de esta hormona hemos aprendido que ejerce más de 300 funciones en distintos tejidos y órganos de nuestro cuerpo, por lo que podemos considerarla como una hormona pleotrópica. Además de su acción reguladora de la secreción láctea, la prolactina modula múltiples funciones en el organismo que pueden agruparse en grandes categorías: agua y balance electrolítico, crecimiento y desarrollo, endocrino y metabólico, cerebro y conducta, reproducción, e inmunorregulación y protección.
