Abstract

[EN] This study assesses the expected climatic change for La Rioja region by the end of the 21st century. Temperature, precipitation and climatic balance (precipitation minus reference evapotranspiration) have been simulated by six different Regional Climate Models (RCMs) for a control period (1960-1990), and subsequently compared with those simulated for the future (2070-2100) under two markedly different scenarios of greenhouse gases concentrations in the atmosphere (A2 and B2). Results show a sharp increase in temperature (4.4-3.1°C for mean annual values) and a moderate decrease in precipitation (16.7% and 11.8% of the total annual). Such climatic switches explain a marked decrease in the climatic balance, which suggest a progressive tendency towards more restrictive water availability conditions.
