"La divulgación os hará libres" o sobre la liturgia del conocimiento

Abstract

Partimos de una distinción entre difusión y divulgación del conocimiento científico. Difusión se aplica a hechos empíricos o experimentales singulares: se asimila al ‘anuncio de una buena nueva’. Divulgación asume un tratamiento del conocimiento científico que, supuestamente, deja al lego suficientemente informado para tener una opinión fundamentada sobre ese conocimiento. Mucha de la literatura de divulgación se queda en los siguientes ‘modus scribere’:

Congreso organizado por el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) y la Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT), en el marco de la celebración del centenario de la Junta para Ampliación de Estudios e Investigaciones Científicas (1907-2007) y el Año de la Ciencia.

- La variedades ‘indiscriminatus miscere’ y el ‘verbi farragosi’, cuyo extremo minimalista se expresa en forma de ‘haiku’ o ‘chinese cookie’, suele tener su versión más extensa, en textos grandilocuentes repletos de adjetivos con intenciones trascendentes.

- El ‘laudator homini-femini’, dedicados a loas variadas de investigadores, que se ofrece como sello de garantía de lo que se dice y exime de una exposición crítica de la misma.

La alternativa son obras con ‘maximus contrarius’, que ofrecen la batería de teorías que se disputan la explicación de los hechos y su relativo mérito.

- No menos frecuente es el ‘proselytus solicitus’ destinado a vender exclusivamente la mercancía del autor, aunque haya en el mercado quien discrepe.

- Los ‘puerilibus habemus’ que se precipitan en juicios sin rigor basados, en muchos casos, en una espuria utilización de la analogía.

- Y las no menos confusas obras ‘churrus-merinescus’ que incluyen en el mismo cesto científicos con taumaturgos.
