Abstract

[EN]For the first time an attempt has been made to characterize different cultivars of Trifolium subterraneum L. by near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (N.I.R.S). To do so, samples from 61 cultivars of subterranean clovers of different origins, naturalized in Australia and cultivated in the province of Salamanca (Spain), were used. The results obtained show that the value of six reflectance considered exhibit a normal distribution, through certain particular variations could be observed. The application of correspondence analysis to the reflectance data matrix (log 1/R) gave an ordering of the cultivars on the principal plane, which, according to their origin, highlights the most precise grouping of those from Salamanca, Badajoz and Tunisia, principally. Furthermore, considering different ranges of protein, hemicellulose and lingnin contents in the cultivars, the reflectances most related to proteins were R4, R5, R3 and R1 , from greatest to smallest content in this fraction. Regarding hemicellulose, R3, R4, and R5 were outstanding, with R1, and R4 following them in order of importance, whereas for lignin six reflectances, are involved. Each of the cultivars was characterized by a value (∑R1 )obtained as the sum of differences between the directly measured reflectances and those correspondig to the ceramic disc.
