Beneficios y riesgos de los avances en biotecnología

Abstract

El objetivo de esta obra es dar a conocer al público interesado los principales desafíos de la conservación de la riqueza biológica de España. Sus páginas revelan que España es uno de los espacios del Planeta que alberga una mayor riqueza biológica, pero, al tiempo, se observa en ese territorio la presencia de un alto porcentaje de especies amenazadas. 'Los Retos Medioambientales del siglo XXI' contiene las contribuciones de 16 destacados investigadores que, desde distintas perspectivas disciplinares, ofrecen análisis rigurosos de la situación de especies emblemáticas en peligro de extinción, indagando en las causas del declive de las respectivas poblaciones y aportando posibles soluciones. En este libro se abordan también algunas causas generales de pérdida de riqueza biológica en el ámbito global, así como posibles aplicaciones de la biotecnología a la conservación de la biodiversidad. Con la publicación de esta obra, resultado de la colaboración con el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), la Fundación BBVA quiere contribuir a la conservación de la diversidad biológica mediante la promoción en el conjunto de la sociedad del mejor conocimiento generado por los centros de investigación de nuestro país.
