Abstract

Resumen: El marco cronoestratigráfico del Magdaleniense en el interior de la Península Ibérica actualmente abarca el período 21.440-21.040 cal BP (nivel 2 del yacimiento de la Cueva del Gato en Epila, Provincia de Zaragoza) a 12.770-12.570 cal BP (nivel I del yacimiento de La Peña de Estebanvela, Ayllón, provincia de Segovia). Estas fechas abarcan periodos de fuerte oscilación climática, comenzando con unas condiciones ambientales muy rigurosas (fase GS2) y terminando con un clima templado (Alleröd); durante este período, se produjeron fenómenos extremos como el evento Heinrich 1. Sin embargo, hay poca información disponible que permita caracterizar los medios por los que los grupos humanos se movieron durante el final del último Glacial en el interior ibérico. El yacimiento de La Peña de Estebanvela es una especie de excepción debido a que sus características arqueológicas permiten reconstruir el entorno, y proporcionan información sobre cómo pudieron haber utilizado los recursos naturales. Los restos faunísticos representados en este yacimiento reflejan los cambios paleoecológicos a través del tiempo. El análisis tafonómico de los macromamíferos y lagomorfos recuperados muestra que estos animales fueron llevados al yacimiento, descarnados y consumidos. Los datos disponibles sobre estacionalidad fijan la ocupación de los niveles I-III desde la primavera hasta el otoño. Se recogieron ciertos tipos de madera para utilizar como leña. Otros elementos que se encuentran en el registro (adornos personales, arte mobiliar y materias primas) proporcionan evidencias de que las personas que ocuparon el yacimiento se movieron en un territorio más extenso.

Abstract: The chronostratigraphic framework of the Magdalenian in the interior of the Iberian Peninsula currently covers the period 21,440-21,040 cal BP (level 2 of the Cueva del Gato site at Epila, Province of Zaragoza) to 12,770-12,570 cal BP (level I of the La Peña de Estebanvela site, Ayllón, Province of Segovia). These dates embrace times of strong climatic oscillation, beginning with very rigorous environmental conditions (stage GS2) and ending with a temperate climate (Alleröd); over this period, extreme events such as Heinrich event 1 occurred. However, little information is available that would allow the environments through which human groups moved during the Late Last Glacial of the Iberian interior to be characterized. The La Peña de Estebanvela site is something of an exception in that its archaeological features allow the reconstruction of the surrounding environment, and provide information on how natural resources may have been used. The faunal remains represented at this site reflect changes in palaeoecology over time. Taphonomic analysis of recovered macromammals and lagomorphs shows that these animals were brought to the site, butchered and consumed. The available data on seasonality fix the occupation of levels I-III from the spring to the autumn. Certain types of wood were collected for use as firewood. Other elements found in the record (personal ornaments, mobiliary art and raw materials) provide evidence that the people that occupied the site moved over a more extensive territory.
