Abstract

«La figura del aragonés Pedro Cubero y Sebastián no digo que esté olvidada sino que es desconocida. Y se trata de un hombre excepcional, inquieto, andariego, que dio la vuelta al mundo por tierra y por mar ( ... )>>. Ricardo del Arco escribió estas palabras en 1947 Y al cabo de casi medio siglo, siguen teniendo plena actualidad. Lo poco que sabemos de este viajero nos lo ha dicho él mismo a lo largo de sus relatos. Nació el año 1645 en El Frasno, «uno de los lugares de la comunidad de CaIatayud». A mediados del siglo XIX, cuando Pascual Madoz escribía su obra, El Frasno tenía 154 vecinos, según él 232 almas, porque aplica el coeficiente 2,16. Su única parroquia era la Asunción y había una ermita dedicada a Nuestra Señora de Pietas. En sus campos se cultivaban vides, olivos y cereales, y tenía ganado lanar. Es de suponer que, si esto era El Frasno entonces, en el siglo XVII sería aún menor su importancia y más pequeña su población.
