Abstract

[EN] Shape and size of glacial cirques are studied in two sectors of the Asturian Massif (the Western Massif of Picos de Europa and the sierras of Southwest Asturias). The former is basically composed of limestones, with a craggy relief, whereas the latter ones are composed of quartzites and shales, determining a less contrasted relief. The morphometric analyses carried out allow us to conclude that the geo-environmental factors (altitude, aspect, lithology) have a scarce influence on the shape and size variability of glacial cirques in the Western Massif of the Picos de Europa, due to the great influence of the structural pattern and the karstic development of the relief. On the opposite, glacial cirques increase significantly their size, length and width when altitude also grows in the sierras of Southwest Asturias.
