[EN]The aboveground biomass production, proportion of botanical groups in the community (grasses, legumes and other families), species richness and diversity were studied in semiarid grasslands of CW Spain. The influence of topographical gradient, substrate, tree species, soil characteristics and altitude on the former variables was considered. Within soil variables pH, N, and C content, K and Ca available and sand, clay and lime fractions were considered. High values of diversity were observed but not significant relationship with the topographical gradient, tree vegetation, substrate or altitude was found. There were differences in species richness between slope zones, substrates or altitutes. There were also significant relationships between biomass and soil variables such as organic matter or carbon content. Diversity and species richness were poorly related to soil variables.
